People move to the island after discovering its easy access, amenities and special way of life. Salt Spring Island is uniquely located in close proximity to large cities while being isolated from their influences. With three BC Ferry ports it is a natural hub through which one has multiple access and travel options. In the south, the Fulford Harbour ferry is a mere 30 minutes to access the southern part of Vancouver Island and Victoria. The northwest central ferry terminal at Vesuvius Bay is but a short 20 minute trip to central northern Vancouver Island with access to Duncan, Nanaimo and more distant destinations like Long Beach in Tofino. Finally, there is the central east central Long Harbour ferry which is only about 10 minutes from Ganges on Salt Spring providing a direct link to Tssawassan and Metropolitan Vancouver on the BC coast.
